A converted Victorian terrace in Hackney, a 1930s mansion block in Maida Vale or a new-build tower in Nine Elms: London flats are very different from one another, and an off-the-shelf box rarely fits any of them well. Tell us how your flat is laid out and we design a system around it, prepare it in our workshop and send it to you ready to mount.
Four kinds of London flat, four different weak points
Before suggesting a single detector, we look at where someone could actually get in. In London, that depends heavily on the type of building.
Converted terrace
A Victorian or Edwardian house split into two or three flats. The street door is often shared, so your own flat door on the landing is the real front line. Rear sash windows facing the garden, and the back of the house that neighbours rarely watch, deserve contacts of their own.
Lower-ground and basement flat
Steps down from the pavement, a lightwell, windows at ground level and sometimes a separate door under the front steps. These openings are out of sight from the street, which is exactly why they need detection rather than just a lock.
Mansion block
Communal stairs, long internal corridors and large rooms with tall windows. Upper floors are less exposed from outside, so the system focuses on the entrance door, the hallway and any window reachable from a fire escape or roof.
New-build development
Fob entry, sometimes a concierge, balconies and floor-to-ceiling glazing. The main risks shift: a door forced on the corridor, a balcony door on a low floor, or a water leak while you are away. A leak detector can matter as much as a motion sensor here.
Why “no drilling” matters so much in London
A large share of Londoners rent, and many owners hold a lease rather than the freehold. Tenancy agreements and leases often restrict alterations to walls, doors or the outside of the building, and communal areas usually belong to the freeholder or managing agent. Always check your own agreement, but a wireless system avoids most of these questions.
- Detectors, keypad and siren fix with adhesive mounts: no holes, no cables along the skirting
- The hub plugs into a socket next to your router
- Nothing is added to communal hallways or the facade
- When you move out, the kit comes with you and is set up again in your next flat
Example only. Your proposal is based on your own floor plan.
How your kit gets from our workshop to your flat
Describe your flat
Floor, number of rooms, which windows open, shared or private entrance, pets. Two minutes on the form, or a few photos on WhatsApp.
Receive your proposal
A VISAO technician designs the system and tells you where each device goes and why.
Order your kit
Once you approve the proposal, we pair every device, name each zone after your rooms and test the whole system before it leaves.
Fit it with us
Follow the illustrated guide and, if you like, book a video call: a technician checks each step and runs a final test with you.
Alerts, police response and insurance
Who gets the alert?
Your VISAO kit is self-monitored: when a detector is triggered, the siren sounds and you receive an instant notification in the app, wherever you are. You can then check what is happening, contact a neighbour or the building concierge, and call 999 if a break-in is in progress.
What about the police?
In England, the police only register and respond automatically to alarm systems that meet the National Police Chiefs’ Council requirements, which means a police-recognised installer and an approved alarm receiving centre (source: NSI). A self-monitored system does not give you that automatic response, which is why fast app alerts and a loud siren matter. Our article on police response to alarms in England explains the rules in more detail.
And your contents insurance?
Some insurers ask about alarms, and for higher-value homes they may require a specific type of monitored system. Ask your insurer before ordering, and tell us what they need: we will say plainly whether our kit fits.
The equipment we use is Ajax wireless hardware with encrypted radio communication and NF&A2P certification, the French standard for intrusion alarm equipment. Our team has 17 years of experience protecting homes, shops and sites, including for brands such as Decathlon, Renault and Louis Vuitton.
Questions from London flat dwellers
Do I need my landlord’s permission?
Check your tenancy agreement first. Because the kit uses adhesive mounts and plugs into a socket, it normally involves no alteration to the property, but telling your landlord or letting agent is always a good idea, especially if you plan to fit a detector near a shared door.
Will it work with my broadband?
Yes. The hub connects to your router with a cable and, depending on the model in your proposal, can also use a mobile SIM as a backup if the internet goes down. The hub also has a backup battery for power cuts.
Can I take it with me when I move?
Yes. Peel the mounts off, pack the devices and refit them in your new home. Send us the new layout and we will help you reorganise the zones by video call.
Protect your London flat without a single hole in the wall
Describe your flat in two minutes. We send you a proposal for a system designed around it, then prepare, test and ship the kit once you order.
