Alarm kit for terraced houses in Birmingham, ready to fit

Alarm kit for terraced houses in Birmingham: planned around your home, configured and tested before shipping, fitted with no drilling. Get my system proposal.

A two-up two-down in Small Heath, a tunnel-back in Kings Heath, a bay-fronted Edwardian terrace in Moseley or a student let in Selly Oak: Birmingham has a lot of terraced housing, and a terrace is protected differently from a detached house. The front is on the street, the back is reached through a shared entry or alleyway, and the neighbours are on the other side of the wall. Tell us how your house is laid out, we design a wireless system for it, and once you order, we configure and test the whole kit before it leaves our workshop.

Where a terrace is exposed

The weak points we look at first in a Birmingham terrace

The back of the house

In most terraces the kitchen door, the back-extension window and the garden gate face an entry or alleyway shared with several neighbours. Nobody on the street can see them. A contact on the back door and on the extension window, plus a motion detector in the kitchen, cover the route a burglar is most likely to take.

The tunnel entry

Many Birmingham terraces were built in pairs with a covered passage between them leading to the back gardens. It is handy for bins and bikes, and just as handy for someone who wants to reach your back door unseen. An outdoor detector with a camera can watch the yard side of the passage.

Front bay and sash windows

Ground-floor bay windows sit a step from the pavement. Older sash or replacement uPVC units each get their own opening contact, so the alarm reacts the moment a window moves, not only once someone is inside.

The front door straight onto the room

In a classic two-up two-down the front door opens directly into the front room, with no hallway. That changes where the keypad goes and how long the entry delay should be. We set this with you rather than guess.

Why wireless

Built for party walls, plaster and lath, and rented homes

Chasing cables into old plaster, lifting floorboards or running wires along a party wall is messy and disruptive. A wireless system avoids all of it, which also suits tenants and landlords who do not want building work in a let.

  • Detectors and contacts fix with adhesive pads and come off cleanly if you move
  • The hub plugs in next to your router and, depending on the model, falls back on a SIM card if the broadband drops
  • Every device arrives paired and named for your house (“Back door”, “Kitchen”, “Front bay”)
  • Separate codes or key fobs for each person, so housemates in a shared let are not all on one code

If you add a camera, aim it at your own property. The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) explains that once a domestic camera captures images beyond your boundary, such as the street or a neighbour’s garden, data protection rules apply to you, so we help you position cameras to cover your yard and doors only.

Your situation

Three Birmingham terraces, three set-ups

Family terrace in Stirchley or Kings Heath

Children, a dog and a back garden. Pet-friendly detectors downstairs, night mode so the ground floor is armed while everyone is upstairs, and a contact on the side gate if it opens onto the entry.

Student let in Selly Oak

Five tenants with different timetables and a house that sits empty over the holidays. Each tenant has a fob, the landlord sees in the app when the alarm is armed, and the system keeps working through the long summer break.

Edwardian terrace in Moseley or Harborne

Original sash windows, a cellar door and a loft conversion. Contacts on every opening, a detector on the cellar stairs and a photo-capable detector on the landing, so you can see what triggered an alert before you react.

How it works

From a short description to a working alarm

01

Describe your house

Doors, windows, back access, pets, who lives there. A few lines on the form or some photos on WhatsApp are enough.

02

Receive your proposal

A VISAO technician designs the system and explains what goes where, and why.

03

Order your kit

Once you approve it, we prepare, configure and test the complete kit before it is shipped.

04

Fit it with us

An illustrated guide for your house and a video call with a technician, who checks every step and runs the final test with you.

Who gets the alert?

The VISAO kit is self-monitored: when a detector triggers, the siren sounds and you, plus anyone you choose, get an instant notification on your phone. You decide what to do next: check the photo, ask a neighbour to look, or call 999 if a crime is in progress. It is not a monitored service linked to West Midlands Police; our article on police response to alarms in England explains the difference. The equipment is wireless Ajax hardware with encrypted communication, battery back-up and NF&A2P certification, the French benchmark standard for intruder alarm equipment. Our team has 17 years in the trade and has worked for brands such as Audi, Renault and Decathlon.

FAQ

What Birmingham homeowners and landlords ask us

I rent my house. Do I need the landlord’s permission?

Nothing is drilled or wired, so the house is not altered, but it is still sensible to tell your landlord or letting agent, especially if you want to fit anything outside, such as a camera over the yard.

Will the cat set it off?

We choose pet-friendly motion detectors and agree their height and angle with you on the video call, which is the best way to avoid false alarms.

Can I take it with me when I move?

Yes. The adhesive mounts come off, the hub and detectors go into your next home, and we help you rename and rearrange the zones remotely.
