Home alarm kit for Newcastle, shaped around your Tyneside flat or terrace
Home alarm kit for Newcastle upon Tyne: built for Tyneside flats, terraces and semis, tested before shipping, fitted with no drilling. Get my system proposal.
Newcastle homes rarely fit a standard alarm bundle. Walk down a street in Heaton or Sandyford and you will see two front doors side by side on each house: one opens onto a ground-floor flat, the other onto a staircase leading straight up to a separate upper flat. Behind the terrace runs a back lane, with yard gates and bins. Further out, Gosforth and Fenham have 1930s semis with garages and long gardens, while the Quayside and Ouseburn have apartments with a fob door and a lift. Tell us which one is yours and we build the kit for it.
The Tyneside flat: two homes, two very different risks
The Tyneside flat is the signature home of Newcastle and Gateshead, and the upper and lower flats need different alarm plans even though they share the same walls.
The downstairs flat
Everything is at ground level: the front door on the street, a bay window, the back door and the yard that opens onto the lane. The back is where a burglar can work out of sight, so the yard door and the kitchen window are covered first, with a photo detector in the passage between the rooms.
The upstairs flat
Your front door opens onto your own staircase, and the flat itself is on the first floor, often with an attic room above and a rear staircase down to your half of the yard. The street door and the back stairs are the two ways in. A detector at the top of the stairs catches anyone who gets through either of them, and a contact on any rear window above a flat outrigger roof closes the last gap.
The back lane
Back lanes are busy on bin day and empty at night. Many yards have a wooden gate with a simple latch. An outdoor detector can watch your own yard, as long as it is aimed at your property and not at the lane or the neighbours’ windows.

Other Newcastle homes we design kits for
Shared student or professional house
Several tenants, several sets of keys and long empty spells over the holidays. The system can be split into groups so that the common areas and each bedroom are armed separately, with a personal fob or code for every housemate. Agree the plan with your landlord or letting agent before fitting.
1930s semi with a garage
A side passage, a garage that often holds bikes and tools, and a back garden behind a fence. We cover the doors and ground-floor windows, add a contact on the garage door and, if you want one, an outdoor detector for the side passage.
Apartment with a fob entrance
One front door, sometimes a balcony above the river. A contact with shock sensor on the door, a detector in the living room and a leak detector under the washing machine if there are neighbours below. Shared areas belong to the building, so ask the managing agent first.

Receive your proposal
A VISAO technician lists each device, where it goes and why. You can ask for changes before you order.
We prepare the kit
Once you order, every device is paired with the hub, named by room, configured and tested, then packed ready to fit.
Fit it with a technician on video
Adhesive mounts and an illustrated guide. A technician joins you on a video call to check each position and run the final test.
Who gets the alert?
The kit is self-monitored. When a detector triggers, the siren sounds and the people you choose receive a notification on their phones, with photos from the detectors that take them. You decide what happens next and call 999 if a crime is in progress. It is not a monitored service linked to Northumbria Police: our guide to police response to alarms in England explains the difference. Renting? Read which alarm for a rented flat first.
The hardware is wireless Ajax equipment with encrypted radio, battery back-up and NF&A2P certification, the French benchmark for intruder alarm equipment. Our team has 17 years in the security trade and has worked for brands such as Renault, Decathlon and Audi.
Questions from Newcastle residents
I own the upstairs flat and my neighbour owns the downstairs one. Can we share one alarm?
Two separate homes are best served by two separate systems, each with its own hub and its own owners. If you both want it, the kits can be designed together so that the yard and the back lane are watched without duplicating detectors, but each household keeps control of its own alarm.
Will the signal reach from the hub to the attic room or the yard?
Usually yes, but brick party walls and a long rear outrigger can weaken any radio signal. We ask about the layout, test every link on the bench before shipping and add a range extender to the box if a device is far from the hub. The final check is done with you on the video call.
Our student house is empty from June to September. What does the alarm do then?
You can arm the whole house from your phone wherever you are, and everyone you choose is notified if a door opens. Leak detectors also warn you if a pipe gives way while nobody is there. See our tips on securing sash windows for older houses.
